Reasons Why Education is The Key to Success in the Life

As the cyclical and seemingly never-ending debate about education has been raging on, still. The topic somewhat ironically often poses more questions than it provides answers. But what is the value of mainstream schooling? Why is it that some of the most high-profile and successful figures within the western world openly admit to never having completed any form of higher learning? Remember Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, the list goes on and on. With scores of school leavers wanting to further their education with no guarantee of their dream job, in the end, we should ask ourselves whether the qualifications we get still hold the same value now as they did in previous years. Does the overrated success in the school system correlate to success in life? Or is the school system simply geared towards fact retention and regurgitation?

To be honest, the question that still eats us alive is what is true education?

So you want to achieve a degree and get a job and help your family, settle in a career, and get married? Is that what you want? Why do you want a degree? Let me tell you what society will tell you to do which might increase your probability of getting a job, and provides an opportunity for you to get the success that eventually makes your life stressful. But the truth is different and I quote, “ Education is the key to success.” And your parents, what will they tell you? Making them proud will support the cycle of you getting a job, providing the opportunity for you to get successful. Your life will get more and more stressful.

Now let’s look at history, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Oprah, have billions of networks. But if we look at them individually, what is your conclusion? Neither of them has completed their graduation and yet the result is a success. And some of us might protest and tell that money is the only medium by which one measures worldly success. Some of us might even say that” I don’t do it for the money.” So what are you studying for? To work for a charity?

Jesus, Muhammad, Socrates, and Mother Teresa were ever unsuccessful or uneducated? The irony, isn’t it? See, if success is measured with degrees then none of the above-mentioned are meant to be successful. We have not seen what degree Jesus held or Muhammad Ali had. If there was a family tree, hard work and education would be related and school would be a distant cousin. If education is the key then school is the lock because it never developed to follow the mislead. It tells you to assume red is green and makes you continue to believe that until someone tells you to stop because as long as you follow the rules and pass the exams you are better and even regard you as an incredible person. But are you aware that examiners have a checklist and you answer something out of the box, it is a direct cross and it is said that school enhances the horizon and visions? Some renowned people dropped out of school and learned about life in prison.

Past President of The United States quotes that education is about inspiring one’s mind not just filling their head. And take this from me because you know I am an educated lady who only realized countless stressful nights in the library, forcing myself to learn whatever the syllabus has and a can of Red bull to keep me awake through cold winter nights. And also fell asleep in between books which probably equates to the same amount I  had spent on my rent. We have to memorize data, facts, dates, and equations – half of them which we never used in our daily life. I still can not figure out the value of X and where on earth should I use Pythagoras’ Theorem. Also the other half I forget right after I am done with my exams and tend to forget until the next week’s class. I often find myself running to classes and finding that one peaceful place where I can rest my head and peace my mind after nights of studying and hangovers. And that’s how most chase dreams and never tend to give up on them. After weeks of horror, I find myself in a queue of student ghosts running dead with assignments in their hands waiting for approval. Maybe that is why they call it a deadline. After four years of turmoil, on the final day arrives of my graduation where everybody tends to be happy but the same part of the heart dies of a student working so hard and eventually finding that they remember nothing.

And I am not saying the school is evil. All I am saying is to free your motives and reassess your aims if you want a job working for someone else then help yourself before you help others. This will support the saying “ if you don’t build your dream then someone else will hire you to help their dreams.” Define what education is all about because it is not just about regards to take fractions or someone else’s opinion just to pass an exam. I once looked at the penalty kick David Beckham when he was struggling through pain and as he kicked the ball, it looked as if it was destined for heaven. I observed the goalkeeper more he was working on that law of physics, negotiating the calculations and his eyes were not losing sight. In that one millisecond, everybody cheered loudly when the ball touched the net. Looking at David Beckham is more than one way in this world to be an educated man!! Know the irony of education and lead your way.
