Information and Short Biography of Writer Bhawani Bhikshu in Nepal
Nepali Sahityakar Bhawani Bhikshu was born in Taulihava village in the Kapilvastu district of Nepal, the southern region of Nepal called Terai Madhesh. but Bhawani Bhikshu spent much of his life in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. Known by the family name Nohor Ram Gupta, he was born on June 3, 1909. As a novelist and story writer, he made a great contribution to Nepalese literature. He has been conferred the title of Kulbhushan for his contribution to Hindi literature.
Bhikshu made his first appearance in Nepali Sahitya with an essay on criticism, written initially in the Hindi language, that was translated into Nepali language and published in Sharada Magazine in 1936.
He worked as an Editor of Sharada in 1951. He was the Director of the Department of Publicity till 1956. He worked as an Academician at Royal Nepal Academy from 1961. Several of his compiled works have been published. He received Madan Puraskar (Madam Prize), Sajha Puraskar (Sajha Prize), Tribhuvan Puraskar (Tribhuvan Prize), etc. for his works in Nepalese literature.
Bhikshu’s mother tongue was not Nepali but Awadhi’s language. Bhikshu’s stories are available in four collections: Gunakeshari (1953), Maiyasaheb (1960), Avaritia (Whirlpool, 1967), and Anantara. You can read Bhawani bhikshu stories and books which are available in the market.Â
