Religious significance
Hindus believe that Lake Tilicho is the ancient lake Kak Bhusundi mentioned in the epic Ramayana. It is believed that the sage Kak Bhusundi first told the events of Ramayana to Garuda, king of birds, near this lake. The difficulty of this hike depends on the route you use to return. It is classified as moderate to strenuous depending on the route. The best time to visit Tilicho Lake is from March to May and September to November. We recommend starting the hike early in the morning from Tilicho Base Camp for the best views. 5 days Tilicho Lake Trek: Day 1
The entire trip takes 5 days. It starts early in Kathmandu with a minibus from the bus parking lot Gongabu to Lamjung. It took about 8 hours to get to the Lamjung. From there, you drove Sumo to Chame, the headquarters of Manang district.
It’s an almost 6-hour off-road drive to get to Chame through Dhukur Pokhari and Chame. They stay in Chame. There are good hotels in Chame to spend the night. Here you will find cash machines, hospitals and a good reception from mobile phones to Chame.
Tilicho Lake Trek: Day 2
The next day you went to Khangsar with another sumo. This is a small settlement with many hotels. You can go by bike to Khangsar. It took about 6 hours to get from Chame to Khangsar.
The road crosses some stunning scenes of lush grasslands on the shores of the Marshyangdi River, offering superb mountain views. Manaslu, Mt. Himalchuli, Mt. Machhapuchre, Mr. Dhaulagiri, and many more. You spend the night in Khangsar. The apple farm and Agro Manang are some interesting places in Khangsar.
There are no ATMs outside of Khangsar and the nearest station is Tilicho Basecamp. It takes a day to walk to the base camp. Remember to reserve your hotel room at Khangsar Base Camp.
Tilicho Lake Trek: Day 3
They start from Khangsar in the early morning to base camp. The trail is narrow and often crosses areas with landslides. It’s always good to go slow and go in groups. It takes 2-3 hours to get to ShreeKharkha, another small settlement on the way.
There are 3-4 hotels in Shreekharkha for lunch or overnight. You will arrive at the base camp around 5 pm and the view of the sunset over the magnificent mountains was amazing. You will be lucky enough to find Roti Tarkari at the Base Camp Hotel.
The 12-room Base Camp Hotel was a popular tourist destination. A cup of water costs NO. 90 and for a thermos of water would be NRs. 900. BaseCamp hotels have good Wi-Fi coverage. They pay NRs. 100 per head for the stay.
Tilicho Lake Trek: Day 4
The next morning you left as early as possible to get to base camp. It’s about 5 hour walk from BaseCamp. The feeling after arriving at the lake cannot be expressed in words. You will spend a few hours taking pictures and even bathing some friends of your trekking service provider in the lake.
Tilicho Lake and its surroundings are the best places to take photos. The mountains above the lake make a perfect picture. The lake itself is unimaginable. It will leave at 3 pm for Basecamp and walk to Shreekharka. They spend the night in Shreekharka and arrive in Besisahar the next day.
Tilicho Lake Trek: Day 5
It is almost 7 hour drive from ShreeKharka to Besisahar. You can find direct buses from Shreekharka, but it is always better to take minibusses from Besisahar to Kathmandu. You will arrive in Kathmandu in the late afternoon of the fifth day, all tired but full of incredible memories of your life’s journey.
