Cultivate ITIL Values – Haste Makes Waste

in Education
A A

Although ITIL has a wonderful concept, it is useless for small and medium-sized enterprises. Because small and medium-sized enterprises are small in scale, even if they continue to use some ITIL best practices, they can never dogmatize a formal and complex process framework.

Now the IT teams of small and medium-sized enterprises are also working hard to learn ITIL, and strive to introduce some effective best practices into their own IT organizations. However, although some of the essence of ITIL has entered the IT environment of small and medium-sized enterprises, it is not formal and reliable at all, and will not be confused with ITIL at all.

ITIL requires a very structured way of team collaboration, which is fundamentally different from the current situation of small and medium-sized enterprises. If you copy ITIL mechanically, it will not only do more, but also increase the difficulty of the already effective team and reduce the work efficiency.

However, if you just follow the best practices of ITIL without calling it ITIL, as long as it can actually bring benefits, why not.

From the perspective of implementing ITIL best practices, process automation and workflow integration tools are the most accessible entry points for small and medium-sized enterprises to participate in and finally integrate ITIL into enterprises.

But there is a boundary. Ignoring ITIL or adopting only a part of ITIL best practices for various reasons will only let enterprises miss the long-term benefits that should be realized in the long run. If we just avoid the important and play the light, or simply make superficial remarks, even if we achieve some results, it will be more difficult to solve the fundamental problems in the long run, so it is very short-sighted.

One of the main reasons why ITIL V3 has not been popularized is that many companies do not know how to adopt the ITIL best practice framework according to local conditions. Many companies rush to launch ITIL projects. As a result, they use it inappropriately, causing losses, and start to retreat. Then they think that ITIL is not so useful, which is not serious.

In fact, ITIL is misunderstood. In fact, many organizations do not know the real benefits of ITIL, nor do they consider the innovation and improvement starting point of their IT status quo soberly and deeply. Many organizations still don’t know that ITIL actually includes a serious and mature service management part.

Whether you want to adopt ITIL best practices is not a problem at all. The key is how to find resources to implement them. Developers are also telephone service providers, so it is impossible to separate development and support from those specified in ITIL’s treasure book. The limitation of resources is a stumbling block to the promotion of ITIL. Small and medium-sized enterprises need to modify the ITIL framework flexibly, not just superficially, without content, but according to local conditions, to maximize the effectiveness of the ITIL framework.
