In Nepal, universities teach technical education. They provide different technical education. Apart from universities different institutes and council also teach technical education. Some of the institute and universities providing technical education are discussed below.
1. B.P. Koirala institute of Health Science (BPKIHS)
Institute was established with the financial and technical support of Indian government. It is situated in Dharan. It runs university level education in the field of medicine. The main aim of this institute is to produce well-qualified doctor’s and nurses.
2. Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH)
This teaching hospital is located in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu. It is affiliated id granted as an autonomous institute by Tribhuvan University (TU). It is also known as Institute of Medicine (IOM). Under TUTH, technical courses related medicine are taught. The main aim of TUTH is to produce well-qualified doctors and nurses. Technical subjects such as Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and ophthalmology are also taught. This hospital provides different heath services. They also carry different research activities related to public health and medicine.
3. National Academy of Health Science
This academy teaches medicine. The main aim of this academy is to produce qualified doctors and nurses. This academy runs under management Bir hospital. It produces nurses and PG program for medicine and nursing.
4) Patan Health Science Academy
Patan Health Science Academy Science has started its educational activities from 2054 B.S. It produces manpower in the field of medicine. The main aim of | this Academy is also to produce well-qualified doctors. It is situated in Lalitpur.
5) Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science
This institute was established in 2014 B.S. In an earlier time, its main aim was to produce JTA. Currently, this institute produces qualified manpower of agriculture and veterinary. Courses of agriculture science and veterinary science are taught in this institute. This institute has its own farm, laboratory and research center where academic and technical research activities are carried out. This institute | rims under Tribhuvan University.
6) Institute of Forestry
The institute of forestry (IOF) is the first institute in Nepal fully committed to I education and training in forestry and natural resource management. It was established as Nepal forestry institute in 1947 under the Nepal government, department of forestry at Singh Durbar in Kathmandu. It was moved to supping (Bhim Phedi) in 1957 and then to Hetauda in 1965. The institute merged into TU in July 1972 under the name “Institute of Forestry” and developed their infrastructure for Dean’s Office and Pokhara Campus in Pokhara, Kaski.
7) Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT)
This council was established in 2045 B.S with the aim to set up training and courses for technical education. It mainly focuses to produce basic and medium j level technical manpower. It is located in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur. Technical SLC (TSLC) and Diploma level courses are also designed under this council. This council consists of 72 (including 45 annex) training center of its own and it has given affiliation to 346 training institute and colleges.
8) Institute of Engineering (IOE)
This institute is affiliated and granted as an autonomous unit by Tribhuvan University This institute teaches engineering. It is located in PulchowkJ Lalitpur. Different field of engineering such as Civil, Architecture, Electronic Computer, Mechanics etc is taught in this college. The main aim of this college is to produce qualified engineers. It has one central college name as Pulchouk Engineering College. Other satellite colleges are located in different place of the country. They are Thapathali Engineering College, Dharan Agri-engineering College, and western engineering college.
9) Institute of Science and Technology (IOST)
Institute of Science and Technology (IOST) is one of the pioneer technical institutes under Tribhuvan University. IOST has at present 13 Central Departments, 25 constituent campuses, and 71 affiliated campuses. This institute has been actively serving the country in the field of Science and technology as well as in research. All the Central Departments run regular Master and Ph.D. Programmes. Some campuses run both the Bachelor and Master programmes. A large number of students work on scientific research projects launched in the Central Departments at M.Sc. levels. The number of scholars doing Ph. D. in different areas is increasing every year. IOST has given high priority to a collaborative exchange program in order to make faculties’ research scholar and students more competent in national as well as international academia. The Institute has enough linkage and collaboration with different ministries, national and international organizations and academic institutions to foster the research activity accordingly.
