Triple play service refers to a service mode in which the operator provides users with voice, data and video services through broadband access. The main body of broadband technology is optical fiber communication technology. Triple play is a convergence of telecommunication networks, broadcast television networks and the Internet. One of the purposes of network convergence is to provide unified services through one network.

To provide unified services, it is necessary to have a network platform that can support the transmission of various multimedia services such as audio and video. The services require large business requirements, large data volumes, and high service quality. Therefore, there should be large bandwidth during transmission. In addition, from an economic point of view, the cost should not be too high.

In this way, the high-capacity optical fiber communication technology with huge capacity and sustainable development has become the best choice of transmission medium. The development of broadband technology, especially optical communication technology, provides the necessary bandwidth, transmission quality and low cost for transmitting various business information. This means the application of FTTH(Fiber to the Home).

With an Ethernet switch connecting to OLT(Optical Line Terminal), it can provide multiple network management methods, and operators can easily configure and monitor the devices. A typical PON (Passive Opitcal Network) system consists of OLT, ONU(Optical Network Unit), and ODN(Optical Distribution Network). The OLT is placed in the central computer room, and the ONU is the user terminal equipment. ODN is an optical distribution network, which mainly connects OLT and ONU by one or several optical splitters. Its function is to distribute downstream data and concentrate upstream data.

The OLT is not only a switch or router but also a multi-service providing platform, providing optical fiber interfaces for passive optical fiber networks. In addition to providing network concentration and access functions, OLT can also perform bandwidth allocation, network security and management configurations according to different requirements of users’ QoS/SLA. An optical splitter is a simple device that does not require a power source and can be placed in an all-weather environment.

Here we take an example with the V-SOL FTTH solution to learn how to achieve triple-play service. A complete PON includes ASP(Application Service Provider)/ISP(Inernet Service Provider), NSP(Network Service Provider), ODN, and CPE(Customer Premise Equipment) from the central office to the terminal users’ end. Let’s start with the part of NSP!

On the one hand, A V-SOL OLT V1600x is used to access data and then it uplinks to the V3500 series LAN switch that converges the data from OLT and acts as an entrance to the IP core. IP Core connects to the IPTV server, Internet, and Softswitch. Moreover, V-SOL provides Cloud NMS(network management system) to help manage the devices, monitor the network status, and tackle problems in time, There are three systems including BS-EMS, VCCM, and TR069-VACS. The BS-EMS is used for OLT management. VCCM is used to manament CPE. As for TR069-VACS, it’s designed for ONU terminal equipment management.

On the other hand, the OLT downlinks to V8616W EDFA which is an optical amplifier. EDFA connects to an optical transmitter, applying for CATV. In ODN, with the optical splitter, lots of CPE can be accessed. Firstly, when it connects to ONU HG323ACT that supports XPON(EPON & GPON) with 4*5dBi high-gain antennas and CATV ports, you can achieve triple-play services. The wireless network is also allowed.

Similarly, V-SOL’s triple-play ONU HG323RGW can also meet these demands. Secondly, you can set up a mesh WiFi network without cabling in your house. As shown in the image, an outdoor CPE and be installed outside to receive WiFi signals from the 4G/5G base station. Routers like V-SOL HG323AC-B and HF3610ACM supporting mesh function are placed in your house. After suitable deployment and mesh connection, a complete WiFi mesh network is built and the wireless signals cover each corner of the house.

Thirdly, XPON MDU router ICT3310DPS has multiple service interfaces, which can be applied in many scenarios, especially the government and enterprise headquarters and branches. Besides, the MDU supports PoE, which can supply power for IP cameras and WiFi AP. Finally, if you choose the ONU V2802RH with a 2.5GbE LAN port that enables local network devices and devices on the extranet to visit NAS at speed of over 1000Mbps, you can get it connected to 2.5GbE devices. All in all, different ONU/ONT with different features can help achieve services.

With PON in FTTH, triple-play services can be easily achieved. There are visible and manageable platforms, plug-and-play ONU, simple network structures, and easy expansion and upgrade. It can also be applied to campuses, business offices, industries, highways, etc. Multiple services in different scenarios can be easily realized.
