Sorathi Dance Nach of Gurung and Magar Community of Nepal

‘Sorathi nach’ is dance created originally in Nepali Society. It is actually the dance prevailing in the culture of Gurung and Magar community. It is of two types. The dance of male is called Turusungey’ and that of female is’called ‘Maruni’.

It is a characterized dance which resembles the characters of Hindu religion like Harischandra etc. In early phase, 16 female dancers used to dance as per tradition, so it is known as ‘Sorathi’ dance. In modern period, the males and females wearing Bhoto, Kachad and fariya, cholo in a big group perform Sorathi dance. The people wear jewelries and dance in a slow song making a circle. The dancers also dance playing madal hanging down from their waist.
