The maximum depth is 12.30 m and the average depth is 11.71 m. The lake has about 51.9 million cubic meters of average water volume.

The shape of the lake is elongated from northwest to south with irregular width at different points. There is a small island in the middle of the lake where the temple of Barahi (the Hindu goddess) is located. On the south side there is a luxurious green forest that can be reached by boat. The boats are available at the barahi- baidam bank. Similarly, on the northeast side of the lake is Baidam Bazar, now called lake-side.

Begnas Lake

This is the second largest lake in the Pokhara valley. It is about 30 km east of Fewa Lake and about 15 km from Mahendrapool Bazaar (city). Unlike Lake Phewa, its shape is almost round. It is surrounded by hills and green areas, except to the south, which is the entrance to the lake. Its area is 3.73 square kilometers (Lamichhane et al., 2009). There are hostels, hotels and restaurants for visitors and a small local bazaar to buy local souvenirs and essential products. The place is an idyllic place for peace and tranquility.

Rupa Lake

There is a long mound crest called Rupakot that extends from south to northeast. On the north side of the ridge, there is a lake Begnas and on the south side of this, Lake Rupa. From some points, one can see both lakes at the same time standing on the ridge. Rupa stretches from east to west with a narrow width. Its total area is 1.15 km2. The form looks like a snake. It is said that this lake looks like a lizard that changes its color from red, blue, green to different colors. People say there are many medicinal plants in the surrounding area.

Seti River Gorge

The Seti River is fed by the snow of Muchhapuchhre and Annapurna Himal. The Seti River (means white) is elusively strange. Somewhere it flows through invisible channels, somewhere open and somewhere creating very deep gorges. It gives an emotional sensation to anyone when he looks down the cliff from the top of the cliff.

There are many deep gorges made by the Seti River, such as the gorge below K.I. Singh Bridge, broken below Mahendrapool. The river Seti, which is quite visible just below the K.I. Sing Bridge, it looks exciting and adventurous to see. One can look down on the turbulent river that flows very clearly while watching from the bridge about 300 feet below.

Mahendra Cave

This cave is situated in the north of the sub-metropolitan city of Pokhara just 6 km north of the Mahendrapool bazaar. It is exciting to see the beauty of the cave. It is near the bat cave.

Bat Cave

With its name as Chamero Gupha in Nepalese, Bats’ Cave is the popular name in English. This cave is located in Batulechaur, which is approximately half a kilometer walk from the Mahendra cave. It is still a popular and adventurous cave to enter.

The natural phenomenon of this cave has attracted thousands of bats, since they do not feel disturbances inside. People with the sense of adventure usually enter inside with torches. Visitors should be cautious, since the cave is not yet equipped with electricity, and that road is also full of sharp stones. The water dripping from the roof makes the road wet and slippery.

When one is very close to the mouth of the cave, you can hear the enchanted sound inside the cave. The area of the Bat Cave is 10 meters deep and six meters high, along with its 135 meters in length. There is a small stream that flows deep under the rock. At the other end of the cave there is a small narrow hole.

However, the cave at its center is incredibly spacious. There are large rocks cut from solid rock. Standing on the rock you can look around the cave. In the middle you can see hundreds of bats hanging from the ceiling. Walking through the darkness, lighting a torch and finding the way out is really difficult but adventurous. If one is not brave enough, it is better not to enter the cave.

Devis Fall

It is a hole made in nature in Chhorepatan, very close to about 2 km from Fewa Lake and the Lakeside area. Actually, excess water or excess water from Fewa Lake drains through this hole and the water runs underground to a distance of approximately one kilometer away from Chhorepatan. Finally, it mixes with the small stream called Phusrekola down the site.

The hole is approximately 20 feet in diameter and 50 feet deep. A large flow of water that flows rapidly towards the mouth of the cave exposes the beautiful rainbows that flicker unstable in the water vapor. Then, the great mass of water flows invisibly and disappears below the hole, which provides extremely exciting and pleasant sensations. Its local name is Patale chhango.

The same name of Patale chhango in Nepalese has become popular with tourists and tour operators as Davis falls. The word “Patale” certainly derives from the Nepalese word “Patalo” means superficial or can be named from the religious word “Patal” means below the world. But after the miserable death of a tourist to fall in the fall of the water, his name has become popular as “The fall of Devi.” The story of his death is as follows:

In 1961, a Swiss couple was taking a bath right next to the waterfall with their dog. Around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, when the water gates of the Fewa Dam opened as usual, the overflow of the lake water approached them.

It is believed that his dog saw the torrent of distance and barked loudly; however, the couple could not pay attention to the mere sound of the dog. In the blink of an eye, the water approached them and swept the lady with the hole. However, her husband survived (Shakya 2012).

Hill Tops

The contrast of the land with the plains, small hills and hills in the shadow of the imposing and powerful Himalayan range is the great virtue of the natural heritage in Pokhara. The beautiful view of the Himalayas is the main attraction of these hilltops.

Each of these hilltops is accessible to the peaks by surface transport or two to five hours of walking or pony trekking. Some of these destinations in the hills are full of agricultural activities. Accommodation tourism is available with rural tourism activities in the villages around these hills.

There are many hilltops from which you can see lovely and romantic views of the Pokhara valley, green forests, magnificent snow-capped mountains and beautiful lakes. The top of the hill Kaskikot is one of them. Kaski is the name of the place and ‘Kot’ means ‘Fort’ in Nepalese language. On the derivation of the name ‘Kaski’ there are two versions.

According to one version, ‘Kaski’ is the name of a suit worn by the indigenous Tamu (Gurung), from the waist to the knee, now known as ‘kacchad’ for distortion. It is associated with a small king or cacique that belonged to the native Tamu at the beginning of the settlement in Kaski. This gives the historical fact or source of the name Kaski. Another version is of Hindu legend or fiction.

According to the fiction, a sage named Kashyap had meditated in that place. So the name Kaski is given to this Hill Top (Subedi 2004, p 27). There is a saying that says ‘Ghale Mari Shahi Rajaya’ still in the language of the local people, which means that killing Ghale (Us) chose Shahi (Shaha).

This is the political and historical information about the Kaskikot Hill-Top (ibid). With the name of Kaskikot, the whole place is called with the word Kaski (Niraula 1986). Kaski is the ancestral state of the Shaha kings of Nepal, whose capital was Kaskikot about 1650 years ago.

There is a road with a black stop to Sarankot and a road with good weather from Sarankot to Kaski Hill-Top (Kaskikot). On the other side, through Hyanja to Naudanda, there is another field: road and then a good time to get to Kaski Hill-Top. From Bindavasini Archal Bot through Sarankot, it is a good walk to get to Kaski Hill- Top. It can be done in a day.

There are hotels and restaurants to rest in Kaski kot Hill-Top. From Kaski – Hill Top, visitors can enjoy the panoramic views of the Himals Machhapuchhre, Annapurna and Dhawalagiri, as well as the Pokhara Valley, far and wide. It is very nice to see it especially on a clear night of a full moon.

At the time of sunrise in the morning, the whole range of the Himalayas looks bright in golden color. Visitors will realize the direct existence of the divinity while observing the beauty of nature.

Sarangkot is a very interesting and beautiful place. It is a very windy place that offers a fresh and exciting experience. From Sarangkot Hill-Top, you can see the panoramic view of Machhapuhhre, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Ganesh Himals along with other tourist places such as Panchase, Swargadwari and even the historic palace called Shreenagar of Palpa.

Since Hill-Top is located in the northwest direction of Fewa Lake, from where the lake begins, you can have a full view of the entire lake and almost the entire Pokhara valley. From Sarangkot you can take a trekking trip to Kaskikot and then to Naudanda and then to Pokhara by bus.

It is a lovely place to watch the sunrise and enjoy the first rays of the sun in Himal becoming a golden color. Today, it has become very popular as a paragliding center with the elevation of 5000 feet. This hill is famous for sunrise, near Mountain View and Para hawking. The Annapurna range is only 19 km from here.

The bird’s eye view of the Seti river valley, the countryside, the agricultural terraces, the Pokhara valley and Fewa lake is admirable. It is said that Sarangkot is the place where you must visit as you land in pokhara for the first time. Mountain view of the Himalayas 3; The Dhaulagiri range, the Annapurna range and the Manaslu range can be seen on a single stand.

It is a mountain station about 4-5 km south of the Pokhara Airport, which is located at Nirmal Pokhari VDC. It is a beautiful ridge, especially rich from the topographical point of view. From here, the view of the entire Pokhara valley can be seen along with Lake Fewa and its surroundings.

You can also enjoy the fantastic view of the sunrise and the light of the full moon, especially from here. In the light of the moon, the brightness of the snow-capped mountains and the dazzling Pokhara valley with lights is the most attractive and pleasing to visitors. Observing the landing and take-off of planes at the airport from Foksing is another more pleasant scene. The Foksing is also a place for short one day walks.

From the point of view of tourism, Kahunkot is a joyful place to have a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains, hills and natural evergreen forests. One can see the bifurcated top of Machhapuchhre and other Himals, from the top. It is very close to the Mahendrapool bazaar.

From Kahunkot you can see most of the southwestern valley and almost the entire part of the north valley of Pokhara. From the top, the Mahendrapool bazaar area and its nearby attractions seem to be very close. In Kahunkot there is a tower built to have a good view of the surrounding areas. It is also a place for short trekking. The tower and its summit can also be clearly seen from the Mahendrapool bazaar.

The historical significance of Pangdurkot is not only interesting, but also associated with natural beauty. Indigenous peoples such as Gurung, Magar, Rai-Limbus, Newar, Tamang, etc. who are of Mangolian origin speak the Tibeto-Burman language as their mother tongue.

Therefore, according to the Tibeto-Burman language, ‘Pang’ means ‘House’ and ‘Ding’ means ‘Sun’ or ‘Light of the Sun’. From the top of the pangdur, the view of the sunrise can be clearly seen. So his name at the beginning was ‘Pangding’. Later, it has become kot Pangdur. Pangdur is 30 km west of the Pokhara Valley. There are still the remains of a fort made of stone wall at the top of the hill.

Anadu Hill- Top is located in the western part of the Pokhara valley and on the southwestern side of Lake Fewa. Its height is 1,100 m from sea level. In the summer season, this place is still the coldest place for visitors who feel too hot around the lake area. In winter, it has direct sun throughout the day and visitors can enjoy the warm sun with fantastic views of vivid views.

Visitors can see many more snow-capped mountains from the top of Anadu Hill than any other station on the top of Pokhara Hill. The different parts of the locally named Himalayas such as Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchchre, Himchuli, Himal and Hati Sunde (shaped like an elephant trunk), Rakanoyar, Glacier Dome, Manapathi, etc.

They can be recognized from the top of Anadu. When the weather is fine, Larke and Ganesh Himal also appear before the view. Lake Fewa with the small temple Barahi (island) can be seen as a bird from very close. In addition, almost all the sights of the Pokhara valley and the green landscape of hills and hillocks can be overlooked from the top of the hill, like Paradise hung below the eyes of visitors.

There is a peace stupa built in memory of Lord Gautam Buddha, the preacher of world peace. One can enjoy peace by being inspired by the stupa of peace and contemplating the natural gift. This hill is more than 12 km from the city of Mahendrapool. There are 4 routes to get to the top of the hill.

You can get to Chhorepatan, near Devi’s – Fall by urban bus and then walk gently uphill. While walking, you can enjoy a true village life and its culture. The second route is the most exciting. You can rent a boat from Barahi Fewa bank and get to the other side (opposite), enjoy browsing. Then, climb the hill that takes less than an hour into the forest. This walk is refreshing and recreational too.

The third route is from just below the Fewa Dam and above Devis-Fall. There is a very short suspension bridge at the bottom of the Ranivan. From there begins a very gentle uphill hike. While the walk begins through the forest, one can listen to the melodies of different birds. It takes about two hours on foot to get to the top. The fourth route starts from the Development Committee of the Kalimati village of Pumdi- Bhumdi. It is the shortest route to walk to the top of Anadu Hill enjoying the landscapes of the green fields of the village.

Ghandruk Hill-Top is about 6500 feet above sea level, and is the last boundary of the Pokhara valley in the northwest direction. The specialty of this hilltop is that one can see the other side or the back of the Machhapuchhre Mountain very closely.

Another specialty is that tourists can enjoy hospitably and homely at the Homestay hotel in Ghandruk. At the top of the hill, you can see the terraced landscape with green areas and pedestrian hills. The visitor can also enjoy the beautiful and beautiful stream of the Mardi River. If one has never seen a mountain stage of a river, then it would be an eternal memory in his life.
