5. FarĀ Development Region of Nepal
The FWDR is the smallest region of our country honing an area of 19.539 sq km. It lies in the far west part ofNepal. Dipayal its headquarters. It is composed of just two zones ~ Seti, Mahakali – and nine districts. It is bordered with the MWDR in the ea. and India in the west. The population of the region is 25,52,517 (9.63%) of the total population of Nepal. In every one sq km, 131 people of mixed ethnicities and castes have been dwelling arity their typical lifestyles. It is easy to carry out developmental | here due to Us small size.
There are three geographical features in this region: The Himalayan in the north, the Hilly in the mid and the ‘ Terai in the south.Ā The River KarnaliĀ flows in the east andĀ Mahakali drains the border in the west. In the middle, there flows River Seti and Budhi Ganga as tributaries of Karnali and River Chamelia as the tributary of Mahakali. Mt Api (7132m), Mt. Saipal (7025m), Nampa Himal, Yokapahad (6644m) and Lasa (6189m) and Byasrishi Himal are the major mountains in the region.
The Terai region consists of sub-tropical forest and contains fertile plains. The Hilly Region has temperate mixed forests dominated by deciduous andĀ coniferous forests and consists of semi-fertile soil. The soil of the Himalayan Region is infertile and has the extreme cold climate. It has alpine and tundra vegetations, The extremely hot wind called ‘Loo’ blows into the Terai from the Thar desert of India owing difficult environment to daily life, mainly in the Terai part. Though this region receives more precipitation in winter, summer rainfall is less than other development regions. The winter rainfall makes it suitable for horticulture. Shuklaphanta WLR in the Terai and Khaptad NP in the Hilly Region have sheltered a variety of wildlife with richness in flora and fauna. Lake Ghodaghodi in Kailali and Khaptad in Doti lure tourists in the region.
