Maha Shivaratri Fasting Food Recipes : Sabudana Khichdi

This post is about how to cook Sabudana Khichdi, Maha Shivaratri Fasting Food Recipes. Sabudana khichdi recipe is usually cooked during fasting days like teej, jitiya, sawane sombari, navratri or mahashivratri or ekadashi. Sabudana khichdi is an Indian food recipe.

Sabudana khichdi is an easy snack to cook. It is a good recipe to be cooked in the shivaratri’s day. It requires little experience to get the sweetest and perfect tasty. When you cook the sabudana khichdi, you have to adjust the soaking time as per the type of tapioca pearls. for some 2-3 hours is fine. for some you don’t even need to soak them in water.. just cover the pearls with water for some time and you are done.

There are more sabudana recipes which can be useful in Shivaratri fasting food recipes like sabudana ladoo, sabudana pakauda, sabudana kheer and sabudana puri.

Ingredients for Maha Shivaratri Fasting Food Recipes : Sabudana Khichdi

  • 1 cup sabudana or tapioca pearls
  • 2 small to medium size potatoes
  • ½ cup roasted peanuts
  • 8-10 curry leaves (optional)
  • 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ¼ cup grated fresh coconut (optional)
  • ½ to 1 tsp sugar or as required
  • ½ to 1 tsp lemon juice or as required (optional)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • rock salt as required

  1. soak sabudana overnight or for 4-5 hours.
  2. next day, drain the sabudana very well and keep aside in a bowl.
  3. boil the potatoes and when warm peel and chop them.
  4. Chop cashew nuts and peanuts, fry them and keep aside, chop paneer & aloo, fry and keep aside.
  5. Strain the soaked sabudana through a sieve and remove the hard sago seeds.
  6. Heat ghiu in a pan and add chopped green chilies,
  7. add the nuts, paneer, potatoes, salt, mango powder and pepper.
  8. don’t over cook as they might become lumpy and hard.
  9. Lemon juice can also be added-mix it with soaked sabudana. 
  10. Your Sabudana Khichdi is ready to eat!
