The captain of the plane was the only survivor. The video of the incident showed bad weather at the time of the incident. The plane slid down the slope before it stopped about 200 meters below the level of the runway. The captain was killed and the first officer, Shrijan Manandhar, died in the hospital nearly eight hours later. The third crew member suffered injuries and was evacuated to Kathmandu the next day after the weather cleared.

On April 14, 2019, at 9:10 am, a Summit Air Let L-410 turbolet registered at 9N-AMH turned right without passengers and exited the runway at Lukla Airport and hit a Manang Air Eurocopter AS 350B3e 9N ALC helicopter on the helipad 30 to 50 meters from the runway destroying the aircraft and the helicopter.
A second helicopter, Shree Airlines Eurocopter AS 350, 9N-ALK, was hardly or not damaged at the helipad. The three deaths were the copilot of the plane and an officer of the airport security service, who was killed in the accident, and a second policeman, who was seriously injured and flown to Kathmandu, where he died in hospital.
The four reported casualties included the aircraft pilot and a Manang Air helicopter pilot who was injured and flown to a hospital in Kathmandu where they reportedly were out of danger.
These were a few big tragedies that happened during the flights to the airport, of the only gateway to the Everest. the weakness of the airport is mostly related to the operation of the aircraft, i.e. many variables that make it challenging to land and take off from Lukla.
The constantly changing weather, short runway, turbulence and narrow air space available are some of the variables that makes difficult to land and take off from Lukla.
There is nothing that we can do to mitigate, because of its location between hills, altitude, dangerous runway, and the narrow area surrounded by people house and hotel but for sure using modern radar technology, tracking the position before plane land could help to mitigate some of the reason for the accident.
