Chhath Puja is one of the most sacred and eco-spiritual festivals celebrated in Nepal and India, dedicated to Surya Dev (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya, the goddess who is believed to be the sister of Lord Surya.
This festival symbolizes purity, devotion, and gratitude towards nature and the cosmic forces that sustain life on Earth. In 2025, Chhath Puja will be celebrated from October 27 to October 30, with the main rituals taking place on October 29 (Sandhya Arghya) and October 30 (Usha Arghya).
With the arrival of Chhath Puja 2025, millions of devotees will gather near rivers, ponds, and ghats, offering prayers to the setting and rising sun.
The sight of thousands of flickering diyas, devotees in colorful traditional clothes, and the chants of devotion create a divine and peaceful environment that captures the essence of human connection with nature.

The word Chhath literally means “sixth,” as the festival begins on the sixth day of the lunar month of Kartika. It is celebrated mainly in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal’s Terai regions, especially in districts like Janakpur, Birgunj, Lahan, and Biratnagar.
Chhath Puja is not just a ritual; it’s a deep expression of gratitude toward the Sun God, who sustains life on Earth. Devotees believe that by worshipping Surya Dev and Chhathi Maiya, they receive blessings of good health, happiness, and prosperity.
The roots of this festival trace back to ancient Vedic times, where Sun worship was common. It is also said that Draupadi and the Pandavas from the Mahabharata performed Chhath Puja to regain their lost kingdom. According to another legend, Lord Rama and Goddess Sita observed a fast and offered prayers to the Sun God after returning to Ayodhya, marking the origin of this tradition.
Chhath Puja is not just a festival; it’s a way of life — one that teaches devotion, gratitude, and respect for nature. Every diya lit during this festival is a symbol of hope and positivity. Every offering made to the Sun represents humility and gratitude for life itself.
As we celebrate Chhath Puja 2025, let’s remember the true spirit of this festival — purity in thoughts, sincerity in actions, and harmony with nature. Whether you’re at a ghat in Janakpur, a riverbank in Patna, or celebrating from your home, the blessings of Surya Dev and Chhathi Maiya will always shine upon you.
Happy Chhath Puja 2025! May your life glow with peace, prosperity, and positivity.
