All about mobile phone in world: – Today, mobile phones have become such a vital necessity for each individual that one week without the phone in hand is hard to imagine. Due to the rapid advancement in the technology of electronic devices and software, mobile phones are changing the way of our living.
With the help of mobile phones we are able to navigate locations, we can almost buy everything using feature of E-marketing, we remain available for everybody through calls, texts or social media, we can get information whenever and wherever we want, we seldom get bored (thanks to streaming videos, audios, gaming, online e-books, and so on), we don’t have to remember all useless details (like world cup football winners list, schedule of cricket match, distance between venus to mars etc.), we can connect with family and friends (thanks to social media which enables high quality voice and video calls), we don’t have to make album books (thanks to high pixeled camera and high storage capacities of mobile phones), and so on.
So now let’s go back to 3rd April of 1973 A.D. when the first ever mobile phone was demonstrated in New York City. It was demonstrated by John F. Mitchell and Martin Cooper, which has a weight of 1.1 kg. Due to its heavy weighted nature, the mobile phone was nicknamed as “the brick”. Besides the weight, the price of the mobile phone was very high, which was around $10,000 (is equivalent to $25,800 now).
This hindered the commercial availability of the mobile phone. Finally, on 6th March 1983, the first ever commercial mobile phone was released by Motorola. Motorola named the mobile phone as “Motorola DynaTAC 8000X”. For the development of the phone, Motorola had invested about 100 million dollars.
The DynaTAC was the abbreviation of Dynamic Adaptative Total area coverage. This time the cost of the phone was reduced to $3995 (equivalent to present $10,307.1), and the weight was reduced to 790 grams. The dimension of the phone was 3300*898*445 mm DynaTAC had LED display for dialing or recalling one of the contacts and the buttons were aligned in three vertical columns.
The other specification of the DynaTAC was that it could run for 6 hours standby time, which means the battery would be dead either the phone was used or not. The talk-time of 30 minutes was available in the mobile phone, and it used to take about 10 hours to charge the battery of the handset. There was the option of fast trigger charging as well in DynaTAC which could be charged within 1 hour.
For fast charging, extra charging accessories were required. The battery used in DynaTAC was Ni-Cd battery and the operating system was Vendor. It used mini sim – Regular sized sim card. The feature of voice call was only available, and the memory to store 30 contact numbers was available in DynaTAC.
DynaTAC was only affordable to rich people of that time for controlling their business since the price was extremely high. Even the cost of a new luxury car at that time was $2500, which means the mobile phone was even more expensive that the car.
That was why highly rich people were able to afford first ever commercial phone. Before developing the first ever mobile phone, phones were tied within the desks or in the hones with a wire and later the car phone was developed (which was mobile radio telephone, fitted into the automobile). The telephone developed within the automobile had to be carried for carrying telephone.
After the commercialization of mobile phone, the phone then could be carried in the suitcase. A fixed rental of 50$ was charged for the user of DynaTAC along with the charge of 40 ¢/minute for a call at 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a charge of 24 ¢/minute for a call at off peak time of 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Before the mobile phone was commercially available, different efforts were carried out to make mobile telephony service available. In 1926 A.D., first ever mobile telephony service was made available to first class passengers in the national railway of German from the route between Hamburg and Berlin.
In Chicago, first calls on car radiotelephone were made, but the service reached its full capacity due to the unavailability to a sufficient number of radio frequencies. In 1956 A.D., the first automated system of a mobile phone was launched in Sweden for application in private vehicles.
The device weighted 40 kg and the vacuum tube based technology having rotary dial was used in that system. For the development of a mobile phone system, a group named Nordic Mobile Telephone group was established in 1969.
The group included engineers from Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway and that group had focused on a system that would be accessible. Finally, in 1973, the first handset prototype was demonstrated.
After the development of DynaTAC, several other improved form of mobiles were developed.
Some chronological listing of the phones according to their development years are Clamshell phone (developed by Motorola with features of calculator, keypad tones, hands free operation and many more), Candybar phone ( have shape of candybar), satellite phone ( phone was connected to satellite orciting making it possible to call anywhere within the world), personal digital assistant phone ( have the technology of handwriting recognization, virtual keyboard and internet connectivity ), Nokia 6000 series ( made communication through mobile widely available and affordable, had feature of popular “snake” game), Razr ( known as fashion phone due to it’s thin profile and striking appearance), blackberry (having specialization in providing secure mobile productivity and communications but lost its sale due to the introduction of android and iOS platform), T-mobile sidekick ( original name of “hiptop”, SMS friendly phone, but the hype was died out due to android and iOS), creative keyboard phone ( phone with full sized QWERTY keyboard), iPhone ( known as game changer phone, had features of digital music player, PDA device for enabling internet and 2MP camera), app enabled smartphones (used Android and this platform manufacturers like LG, Samsung, HTC etc. to create different devices),firephone (having innovative features of better camera, free storage of photos in cloud , firefly technology and 3D features) and so on.
So, over the course of time, mobile phones hace become wider, lighter and powerful and this trend of development of surprising mobile phones will continue in the future as well.
