    2. Ambassador Abul Ahsan of Bangladesh was appointed as the first Secretary-General of SAARC.

    7. The fifth SAARC summit was held in Male, the capital city in the Republic of Maldives in 21st, 22nd and 23rd November 1988.

    8. The sixth South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation Summit was held in Colombo, Colombo is the largest city and metropolitan area of Sri Lanka in 31st December 1991.
