Best API Monitoring Tools

in Technology
A A

Introduction

APIs are integral to modern development, and the number of APIs that businesses expose to the public has exploded over the last several years. There are many different types of APIs that a company can use when developing applications, including RESTful APIs, GraphQL APIs, and others.

Monitoring man computer data

However, as you’re probably aware, if you’ve ever worked on an API before (or tried working with someone else’s), monitoring these resources once they are deployed can be difficult. Luckily, plenty of tools are designed specifically for monitoring APIs!

Dynatrace

Dynatrace is a well-known tool for monitoring APIs. It is a paid product, but it offers a free trial period so you can get started before making any decisions. Dynatrace has many features that make it an ideal API monitoring tool:

  • Custom dashboards
  • Real-time monitoring of your APIs
  • Custom alerts to track specific performance metrics or events in your code
  • API analytics

LogicMonitor

  • LogicMonitor is a cloud-based monitoring solution that can help you monitor your APIs. Some of the features LogicMonitor offers include:
  • A visual dashboard lets you quickly see your resources’ status, including applications and servers.
  • Alerts when there are problems with any of your monitored resources. This includes sending emails or text messages to alert you about issues.
  • Analytics on how well your monitored resources perform in real-time allow for quick identification and resolution of problems.

New Relic Serverless

New Relic Serverless is a cloud-based solution that monitors the performance of serverless applications. It collects data from AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions, and Azure Functions.

You can get started with New Relic Serverless by signing up for a free account on the New Relic website. Once you have an account set up, you’ll need to connect it with your chosen cloud provider(s). This can be done through the “Integrations” page within your dashboard. From there, select either “AWS” or “GCP” (Google Cloud Platform) to connect with that specific provider’s services.

Once connected, all your deployments will appear under their respective cloud platforms in the left-hand navigation panel of your dashboard interface. You can then click on each deployment name to see more detailed information about its environment—including what functions are running within it—and how much memory they’re using at any given time.

Nagios XI

Nagios XI is an open-source monitoring solution that can be used to monitor APIs. It’s free, and it comes packed with plenty of features:

  • Network Device Monitoring – Nagios XI can monitor various network devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Server Monitoring – You can use Nagios XI to monitor servers running on Linux or Windows operating systems.
  • Database Monitoring – The database feature allows you to check performance metrics such as CPU usage, memory consumption, disk space usage, etc., for your databases like MySQL database server.
  • Application Monitoring – You can also use Nagios XI for application monitoring by configuring it for specific applications like Apache HTTP server (web services), MongoDB NoSQL database (NoSQL database), MariaDB database server (MySQL alternative), etc.

Uptrends Infra

Uptrends Infra is a cloud-based monitoring tool that helps you monitor your APIs. It has integrations with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, Google Cloud, and other cloud platforms. The free plan includes up to 50 monitored resources with 1 million API calls per month.

You can check out the demo here: https://uptrends-infra. com/demo/

AppDynamics

AppDynamics is a monitoring tool for APM. It offers real-time visibility into the performance of your application and its components, including APIs, microservices, and containers. You can use AppDynamics to monitor your APIs—and you should! The more you know about how your API performs in production, the better you can optimize it for high availability and performance.

Datadog

Datadog is a powerful API monitoring tool that monitors many different data types and applications. With Datadog, you can monitor your APIs, servers, networks, and more. Datadog supports many other programming languages, including Java, Python, Ruby, and PHP, and allows you to monitor APIs like vatcheckapi.com.

Datadog has a free tier available for small businesses with limited monitoring needs and several paid tiers for larger enterprises requiring more extensive or customized alerts and dashboards.

Postman Pro

Postman Pro is a paid tool for API developers. The free version of Postman offers essential tools for managing your API requests, but the Pro version adds more advanced features like monitoring, debugging, and approval workflows. Postman Pro is an alternative to Postman, acquired by Google in 2016 but continues to function as a separate product.

Many tools can help you monitor your APIs

Many tools can help you monitor your APIs. Some of them are paid, and some of them are free. Some have a lot of features, and some have fewer features. Some are better for small teams, while others might be better suited to large teams. It depends on your needs and how much time you want to spend setting up the monitoring process.

Conclusion

In this article, we’ve covered the five best API monitoring tools. We hope you now know better what tool might be right for your business needs. Keep in mind that each tool has unique features and capabilities when it comes to tracking and reporting on data, so it’s essential to take some time to research which one will suit your needs best before making any purchasing decisions.
